Barry Landen Receives Jail Sentence and Fine Related to Illegal Insider Trading


TORONTO - Justice Rebecca Shamai of the Ontario Court of Justice today sentenced Barry Landen in connection with insider trading contrary to subsections 76(1) and 122(1)(c) of the Securities Act.

Justice Shamai sentenced Mr. Landen to a 45-day jail term and ordered him to pay a fine of $200,000.

On October 24, 2008, Justice Shamai pronounced Mr. Landen guilty of insider trading in securities of Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. Justice Shamai found that Mr. Landen, who was a senior officer of Agnico-Eagle in October 2003, traded in securities while in possession of material undisclosed information, contrary to the Securities Act.
